The Residence Inn by Marriott Atlanta Downtown receives mixed reviews, with some praising its location and spacious rooms, while others highlight significant issues including inconsistent service, maintenance problems, and safety concerns. Recent reviews indicate a decline in overall quality and responsiveness from hotel staff.
We have stayed at multiple Marriott properties across the United States, and unfortunately this was the worst experience we’ve had so far. We arrived around 1:00 AM after our flight was delayed by three hours. When we got to our room, we discovered it did not have the pull-out sofa that was included in the one-bedroom suite we had booked and paid for. When we asked about it at the front desk, we were told—rather dismissively—that the room type we reserved was not available and that we would have to stay in a different suite for the night. The next evening, we had to move again to the room we originally paid for, which was very inconvenient. As a Marriott Gold member, I never felt welcome during this stay. There was no recognition of my loyalty status, and the overall service made us feel more like an inconvenience than valued guests. There were also several maintenance and service issues during our stay. The microwave in our room did not work, the bench in the gym had a broken seat, and there was never water available in the lobby. On the morning of our departure, there wasn’t even any coffee available. Overall, the lack of room availability, poor communication, maintenance issues, limited guest amenities, and the lack of recognition as a Gold member made this a very disappointing stay. We expect much better from Marriott.
Checked in late and got Willam the supervisor as the attendant. OUTSTANDING customer service! As a young lady visiting Atlanta, I felt so safe and well cared for by William! The rooms are spacious and very clean, and I’ll definitely be staying here again! Once again shoutout to William for making this stay so easy and comfortable!
This was my first trip to Atlanta for a convention, and overall I had a positive experience staying here. The exterior of the building is beautiful and has a classic East Coast city hotel feel. The interior lobby, however, feels somewhat dated and could benefit from renovations or modernization. The highlight of the stay was definitely the staff. We arrived late at night after a delayed flight, and Bashiri at the front desk was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and professional. His attitude immediately made the experience better and helped us settle in comfortably after a long travel day. The rooms are spacious and fit the Residence Inn style well, with everything needed for a comfortable extended stay. The complimentary breakfast was also very good and exceeded expectations for a hotel breakfast. There were good options each day, including biscuits and sausage gravy during one morning of our stay. The only downside was a noticeable musty odor in the room, especially when the air conditioning was running. Guests who are sensitive to smells may notice this more than others. Overall, this is a strong value option with excellent staff, large rooms, and a good breakfast. I would stay here again.
I stayed at the Residence Inn Atlanta Downtown for a 7-day work trip, and honestly, it was one issue after another. The first night, my room’s air conditioner didn’t work. After multiple calls, I was moved to a second room—only to find the toilet wouldn’t flush properly. The next day, I had to move again to a third room. While slightly better, the AC still had issues. At that point, I gave up on switching and just tried to manage. Then came the biggest problem: noise. The room across from me had a dog that barked and whined every single morning between 4:30–6:00 AM. I’m a light sleeper, and that’s right in the middle of critical sleep time. I reported it multiple times over multiple days—nothing was resolved. It felt like no one was actually addressing the issue. Housekeeping was also inconsistent. I was told rooms would be refreshed every 2–3 days, but that didn’t happen. I had to repeatedly call just to get basic items like towels. Valet service was another major frustration. Even when requesting the car 10–15 minutes in advance as instructed, wait times were consistently 30–45 minutes. Staff often seemed unavailable or disorganized. To be fair, the front desk staff were polite and seemed to be trying—but the building itself feels outdated, and operations are clearly not running well. At over $200 per night, I expected a comfortable, reliable stay. Instead, I didn’t have a single night of good sleep or a single day without issues. I won’t be staying here again.
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights with our dogs while he was in town for a conference. The rooms and amenities were great and the staff was exceptional and friendly! Specifically Rufus and Max on the valet team. They were always so friendly. Helpful, and efficient. From grabbing our car quickly, to helping us load the dogs/bags in and out , to suggesting restaurants nearby. Very impressed and we will be back! ??
Me and my fiance stayed at this hotel on February 14th for Valentine's Day. We had a great night and the hotel was perfect. We overslept the next morning and was greeted by the manager Ms.Freydi. She said get your butt out of here now. No No lol. Just joking. She had every right to charge us a fee for checking out late. I explained to her the night that me and my fiance had and we just overslept on accident. She was very professional an very courteous not to penalize us for oversleeping. Thank you very much for your courtesy and we will definitely be back for another stay. This place is highly recommended....
We’ve been traveling for competitive cheerleading for several years and this has been the best hotel experience yet. All of the staff was amazing, from valet to front desk. Louis at the front desk was especially accommodating and helpful. It’s a beautiful history building but well upgraded and modernized.
My partner and I stayed there for 3 nights. We had a really good experience with all the staff. Specially Melbra Bell and Louis, they made our stay the best experience possible. The breakfast was amazing, the kitchen staff were very nice. The location is good (our room had a beautiful view), close to the aquarium and everything, but at night is not very nice. Regardless of that, we had a really good stay. Thank you Melbra and Louis! We hope to see you soon!

Had one of the best experiences here! All of the staff work so hard and went above and beyond! Staff is so attentive that at times I didn't have to ask for anything because they were already offering what I needed! I really appreciate the excellent customer service and the willingness of the staff to help me with whatever I needed help with! Huge thank you to Louis, lady who is over the breakfast, Angelina(sp?), Bahari(sp?), and the Management Team! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
