The Sonesta Atlanta Northwest Galleria receives mixed reviews, with several guests praising the friendly staff and convenient location. However, recurring issues with malfunctioning AC, inconsistent hot water, and dated room conditions are consistently highlighted. Recent negative feedback centers around prolonged issues with room temperature and unresolved maintenance requests, impacting overall guest comfort.
I don’t usually do things like this, but as someone who works in the hospitality industry and understands that things happen, this was simply unacceptable. I drove three hours to surprise my best friend at this hotel. When I walked into the room, it was incredibly hot and muggy. The other girls had already stayed there the night before and had reported that the AC wasn’t working, but no one from the hotel had done anything about it. We went back down to the front desk and asked if we could please be moved to another room. We had a concert at Braves Stadium that evening and needed to get ready. Four girls in one room with no air conditioning, while it’s already 90 degrees outside, is miserable. That’s when we found out the entire hotel had been without AC. It would have been nice to know that beforehand. We explained that we would be spending the entire day outside in the heat and would be returning late that night, hoping to come back to a comfortable room. The hotel refused to move us to another property or offer any meaningful solution. We were simply told that someone was coming to fix it. With no other choice, we got ready in the hot, muggy room and left for the concert, hoping the issue would be resolved by the time we returned. It wasn’t. When we got back that night, the AC still wasn’t working. My friend, who booked the reservation, had to contact Expedia and arrange another hotel for us. We then had to pack up all of our belongings late at night after a long day and move to a different hotel. This entire situation could have been avoided if the hotel had been honest from the beginning and made an effort to help us. To make matters worse, the hotel is now fighting us on receiving a full refund. Are you kidding me? How is this hospitality? The hotel itself wasn’t particularly nice, and several of the outlets in the room didn’t work either. We also witnessed another guest downstairs trying to get help for herself and her sick baby, and they didn’t seem willing to assist her either. Because of the poor communication, lack of empathy, and complete disregard for guest comfort, I can only give this hotel a 1-star review. The only reason I’m giving it even that is because Fred, the shuttle driver, was absolutely wonderful and took great care of us.
This hotel has fabulous customer service. My flight was 14 hours delayed and they assisted me in allowing the other room occupant to check in without me. It was a life saver! I appreciate that so much. Also the breakfast the next morning was wonderful. Yulimar was wonderful and gave first class customer service. She was so attentive and friendly. Thank you so much!!!
I had a wonderful breakfast experience at the Sonesta Atlanta restaurant, and the highlight was the incredible breakfast attendant, Yulimar. She greeted every guest with a warm smile, kept everything stocked and spotless, and made everyone feel genuinely welcome. It’s rare to find someone who brings so much positive energy so early in the morning, but her professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made a lasting impression. She went above and beyond to ensure we had everything they needed and created an atmosphere that felt both friendly and inviting. Great service can make all the difference in a hotel stay, and she is a true asset to the Sonesta team. Thank you for starting my day off right, Yulimar!!!
The wait staff here in the restaurant part of the hotel have been amazing. The room was comfy. The only gripes I had were the shuttle was usually never on time even for pre scheduled appointments and the elevator kept breaking I walked down the stairs to the first floor and it put me out into the pool area but the door was locked to get in the building . When I told the front desk person they just said well the pool doesn’t open until 10…I had to go up one floor and take the elevator down lol
Yulimar was incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming from the moment we arrived for breakfast. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, and her positive energy made our mornings so much better. My kids adored her so much that they even convinced her to try bacon with syrup for the first time, which gave us all a good laugh. She was truly the sweetest person ever and provided exceptional customer service. Thank you, Yulimar, for making our family trip feel so warm and memorable!
Stayed 3/7 - 3/8 Pros: 7mins from venue I worked. Check-in was easy and quick. Cons: Rm 831 had no working AC. Door latch would not lock (had to use top lock + chair to keep from swinging open) I’m certain there are better suited rooms. Rm 831 needs some more care.
We chose this hotel because of its convenient location for business. When you first walk into the lobby, it’s beautiful and smells amazing. The first impression is great — modern, clean, and welcoming. Unfortunately, that impression does not extend past the lobby. As soon as we got off the elevator, the condition of the hallways was extremely disappointing. There were visible cracks in the walls, scuffed and damaged doors, worn finishes, and an overall neglected feel. Inside the room was even worse. The bathroom corners had visible dirt buildup, the air vent was covered in dust, doors were chipped, and even the lampshade looked stained and worn. The room did not feel properly cleaned. We were so uncomfortable that we slept on top of the covers. To make matters worse, there was a broken door on the floor with construction materials visible behind it (see attached video). That is not only unattractive — it raises safety concerns. Guests should not be exposed to unfinished or unsecured maintenance areas. It honestly feels like all of the effort went into the lobby while the guest floors and rooms were overlooked. The contrast is misleading. We will not be staying here again, and I would not recommend it unless serious improvements are made throughout the property — not just at the front entrance.
Stay here through the Holidays Christmas and New Year. Very clean. Rooms smell good, building smells good. Nice interior design. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Quiet. Publix across the street, McDonald's, Starbucks, and 2 gas stations. Nice gym for light work. Pool is amazing, half of it is outside, the other half indoors. Nice patio area. Breakfast was good. Potatoes, grits, French toast, variety of juice, (vegan) didn't see the meat. Smoking area out back. Easy check in and out. I loved it.
Service for breakfast & after work cocktails was amazing! Wish the Southern biscuits & gravy would have been sausage, tasted more like chewy bacon with no flavor (pepper, spices). I know menus have to be a little bland, but have the seasonings there for those of us that like some flavor. (Not a rip, I did enjoy my stay!)
Location of hotel and size of room are good. Front desk staff seemed more concerned about being on their cell phone than taking care of guests. Was suppose to receive a free meal (buffet style) the night of check-in as this was a corporate event but only a portion was covered and the food quality was that of a High School Cafeteria. Water pressure in the shower was the worst I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. I asked for trash to be emptied from my room and they left empty takeout containers. Rooms are large but outdated and not set up well with wasted space. Closet doors were knocked off their tracks which made the doors inoperable. Lobby and entire first floor look nice but it stops at the elevator door. Not a place I would recommend.
