Callaway Gardens offers a beautiful setting and Southern charm, with a focus on exceptional guest service and family-friendly activities like Aqua Island and the Butterfly House. However, recent reviews highlight significant issues with inconsistent service, confusing navigation, and operational problems like staff rudeness and facility closures.
We had the most amazing stay at Callaway Gardens, & I really want to give a special shoutout to Kit & the entire team for making everything so memorable. From the moment we arrived, we were truly welcomed with red carpet service. Our cottage was so cute & nice, & we felt immediately at home. Kit is the most hands on, interactive manager, & she gave us so much TLC throughout our stay. The entire team was warm, pleasant, & accommodating, taking care of anything we needed right away through checkout. We came to celebrate milestones with our kids, & they made our children feel so seen, celebrated, & happy. That meant everything to us. We loved Aqua Island, paddleboarding, kayaking, all of it. We also really enjoyed our dinner at Cason's Tap Room. Shoutout to Lily, our server, & Kaylee, our hostess, who were both wonderful & made us feel so welcome. Lily was there with us last year, too. The true Southern charm stood out everywhere we went. Everyone was kind, attentive, & genuinely happy to help. Monique made checkout so nice, too! We are already looking forward to our third annual trip in 2027 & cannot wait to come back & do it all again!!
I was very disappointed with my recent stay at Callaway Gardens Resort. One of the most concerning issues was a broken balcony door on the 4th floor. This appeared to be a significant safety hazard and should have been addressed immediately. For a resort that promotes itself as a premium destination, guest safety should be a top priority. Unfortunately, the customer service experience was equally disappointing. Several members of the service staff came across as rude and unprofessional. The most memorable interaction occurred when a staff member approached our table and simply said, "You ready for food?" There was no greeting, no introduction, and no effort to provide the level of hospitality that guests should expect. While this may seem like a small thing, it reflected the overall attitude we encountered from multiple employees during our stay. The grounds themselves are beautiful, but the combination of safety concerns and poor customer service overshadowed the experience. Given the price of the resort, I expected a much higher standard of professionalism and attention to detail. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Callaway Gardens Resort based on this visit.
My family has been coming to Callaway for years. Every 4th and every Memorial Day weekend! We won’t be coming back. We were just informed by an 18-year-old lifeguard that we aren’t allowed in the same water we have been swimming in for years. They would like us to move 12 feet over to the area they have roped off. We were told they did it because it’s under new ownership! 40.00 a person and we are expected to swim on top other families.
We went to Callaway Gardens for Mother's Day brunch. It was wonderful food and good service. Each mom was gifted a red rose. After that we went to the Butterfly house. The butterflies are a great experience although it was very crowded. Callaway overall is a beautiful, relaxing place to visit. The negatives of the visit were finding our way to the specific locations and also, it is fairly expensive. Regarding finding our way, we had two gps systems, followed signs and still got lost both going to the lodge and to the butterfly house. It seems like the roads and entrances have changed but nothing has been updated. Regarding the expense, it is a lovely place to visit just be prepared to pay to enjoy it. We had a great Mother's day visit and would probably do it again.
UPDATE**** Callaway reached out to me personally and made it right. Our recent stay at Callaway Gardens was incredibly disappointing. The property itself is beautiful, but the execution from start to finish was extremely poor. For starters, this is not a place for anyone under 40. There’s simply not enough to do. Everything closes early. Even the bar area closes at 10. You find yourself ‘relaxing’ quite a bit more than you want to. From the moment we arrived, things felt off. The front desk staff on Friday gave the impression that we were interrupting them rather than being welcomed as guests. Signage throughout the property — including roads and biking trails — is inadequate, and you’re essentially forced to download the app just to navigate from one end to the other. We noticed upon arrival that there were yoga classes scheduled for Saturday at 8 and 9 a.m. We woke up early to attend on 2/21, only to find that no class was happening. No notice, no explanation. Friday night we dined at the Tap Room, and the food was underwhelming at best. On Saturday we decided to try the Piedmont restaurant, only to discover it had the exact same menu as the Tap Room the night before. That was another letdown. After the failed yoga attempt, we decided to golf. The clubhouse couldn’t be reached by phone, and when I walked to the front desk to ask, I was told golf was closed because it had rained earlier that morning. I’ve never encountered a golf course that closes simply because of rain — especially when it hadn’t rained in over four hours and the ground was dry. That was frustrating, to say the least. We then tried the Discovery Center restaurant and were told it was grab-and-go cold items only. Another disappointment. When we went to rent bikes, I was informed they don’t accept cash — which was an issue since I only carry cash while on vacation. To make matters worse, my wife twisted her ankle, and none of the ice machines in the building were working. The staff at the grab-and-go station reluctantly filled a bag with ice for us, and their demeanor made it feel like we were inconveniencing them. The luggage rack was broken. Overall, many employees seemed unfriendly and lacking basic hospitality. Having stayed at resorts all over the country, this was without question the worst resort experience we’ve had. The setting is stunning, but the service, communication, and overall execution fell far short of expectations.
